ISPC – CNR Researcher

My research activity deals with archaeometric investigations on stone materials, bricks, “terracotta”, archaeological findings, earthy materials and mortars used in architecture, in order to understand the production technology, the origin, the degradation problems and to plan interventions of storage. Since 1985, I’m an active member of the Italian Institute for Standards (UNI), as far as analytical methods used in the characterization of ancient mortars and stone materials used in architecture are concerned. I’m a member of the Scientific Council of the “Science and Cultural Heritage” Congress which has taken place in Bressanone since 1985 and I’m part of the permanent committee of RIPAM (Rencontres Internationales du Patrimoine Architectural Méditerranéen). Since 2007 I’ve been teaching in the “synthesis laboratory” course of the Department of Architecture of the University of Florence. From 2009 to 2011 I was contract professor of the course of Archeometry for the Master of Science in Archeology and Ancient Sciences of the University of Siena. I’ve been a partner in numerous European projects and bilateral scientific collaboration projects.
